The lawn At ten you walk out of the house, Stroll quietly to the lawn. You're in a dream, Walking toward the lawn. That's the everything of that moment. To stroll and to lean on your being, And to slowly conjoin with that moment. You stroll across the lawn, And you feel the damp, solid cold. You feel the peace, you feel it, And you breathe it in with the thin air. Now, standing on the lawn you take a glance, A slight glance to the sky, Just a quick peek to the heavens, Make sure the stars still shine. That's when it hits you, And all you ever wondered at, ever cared about, Hits you, and you wail inside with its weight. You become a well of tears and an ocean of hope, A perfect being, formed of isolation. You realize, you see, you gaze And you drink. Drink in all that stark light. You get lost in the vast air, That air that is your well and ocean. You are enamored with that light, The burn of the stars, Strong pulse of the universe's heart. You step out on the lawn and have drowned, In the opalescence that makes up the sky, And the cry that's deep inside, That's lain dormant for all the years of your life, Rips through your mind, roars like the waterfall, Pounds you through with its sterility, its life, its truth. The stars do call to you, A voice sweet and deep, Thick and rich, Rife with the sound of nature, The sound and ring of truth that doesn't fade. You stand there, now connected solidly in the moment, And love the stars, the world, the blood in your veins The beautiful everything you never knew you could hold. In that moment you hold them. Firm and comforting because they hold you too. You swoon and fill with the pride that you are alive, In the moment, and can forget it all. The sky is yours on a pedestal. Too soon though, The breath in your lungs sears you, Brings you back just enough to exhale. You breathe, again the dew and chill, And you wonder. You reach to touch the world, Fall upon your being, alone again. |
